| Nearly
everybody’s guilty of wanting the unattainable,
from effortless riches to eternal youth, but apparently
horse owners share a common desire. A recent poll
posted on equine.com on behalf of Farnam Companies,
Inc. asked riders about their work habits in the
barn, and which task they wish their horses could
perform for themselves. The participants overwhelmingly
responded that they wished their horses could
handle the most arduous daily routine of all--cleaning
their own stalls.
Farnam’s dewormer group decided to celebrate
this notion by giving away T-shirts that depict
a horse mucking its stall, with a caption that
reads “Wishful thinking.” During the
month of October, consumers who purchase two Liqui-Care
P™ 1-dose bottles and/or canisters of the
new Pellet-Care P™ will take home a free
T-shirt and pocket notebook. Free pocket notebooks
will go to customers who choose one bottle of
Liqui-Care P 1-dose or one canister of Pellet-Care
P.
“We wanted to share a little humor with
our customers over the mundane part of horse ownership:
chores,” said Christina Miller, manager
of Farnam’s deworming products. “We
also wanted to add value to the purchases of the
Liqui-Care P and Pellet-Care P products. Horse
lovers can wear the T-shirts out riding or while
working in the barn.”
Poll takers and barn work/riding ratios
The poll found that more than 70 percent of horse
owners would like their horses to clean the stalls.
Others said they wouldn’t mind seeing their
beloved horses feeding, grooming and washing themselves.
When asked about the balance between barn work
and riding time, most answered that they spend
between one and two hours riding daily, followed
closely by those who said they spend 30 minutes
to one hour in the saddle. The majority of respondents
said that they spend a total of one-and-a-half
hours daily on barn responsibilities including
the following chores: feeding, grooming and cleaning
the stalls.
About 20 percent of poll takers spend more than
an hour on each of the above tasks daily—totaling
more than three hours each day. When asked how
much time riders spend simply “hanging out”
with their horses, most said their quality time
lasts anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes daily.
“The poll results show that riders spend
as much of their ‘horse life’ caring
for their horses’ needs as they do pursuing
the recreational part of horse ownership,”
Miller said.
The new Pellet-Care P
Farnam recently introduced a new equine dewormer
pellet for horses and colts, Pellet-Care P. The
pellets are easily mixed into the horse’s
feed and contain pyrantel tartrate, which removes
and controls infections from large and small strongyles,
pinworms and large roundworms. Horses constantly
re-infect themselves through grazing, so deworming
every two months is required. Pellet-Care P is
fed according to the horse’s weight. Each
16-ounce container treats horses up to 1,000 pounds,
and can be fed to foals and pregnant mares as
well.
Liqui-Care P
Liqui-Care P with pyrantel pamoate easily pours
over your horse’s feed and offers busy
horse owners a simple and efficient option.
It controls large and small strongyles, pinworms
and large roundworms. The vanilla-flavored
creamy liquid contains the same active ingredient
as Strongid®
P, and fits efficiently into rotation schedules.
The liquid is safe for horses of all ages, including
broodmares, young foals and breeding stallions.
Liqui-Care P comes in one, four and 12-dose sizes,
and one dose treats horses up to 1,250 pounds.
