PHOENIX – September 7, 2011 – Keegan held off a late charge in the home stretch from Stasia Wild Pony in the race to win the 2012 SuperMask II SuperModel title. The two horses ran neck and neck throughout the voting phase, with the lead horse changing several times in the backstretch. In the final days of voting, Keegan pulled away to win the first place prize . . . a starring role in the SuperMask® II Horse Fly Mask with Shimmer Weave™ Mesh Color Collection 2012 advertising campaign.
“The voting in this year’s SuperMask II SuperModel contest has been brisk, with total votes cast numbering in the thousands,” said Chris Jacobi, senior vice president of equine products at Farnam. “We were delighted to have the ability to engage so directly with our consumers throughout the contest and have them choose such a beautiful horse to represent the SuperMask® II Horse Fly Mask with Shimmer Weave™ Mesh Color Collection throughout 2012.”
Keegan is an eight-year-old, 17 hand, black Friesian stallion owned by Emily Jewell of Grace and Beauty Farms in Carlisle, Indiana. He comes out of a dam from the Stam 50 line and his sire is Jorrit 363.
Jewell attributes Keegan’s win to his beauty and gorgeous conformation. Keegan has more than 1,000 fans on his Facebook page, Keegan J. Friesian. In addition to dressage tests and other shows, Keegan is also an actor; he performed for a year in The Nutcracker at the Noble Horse Theatre in Chicago as the horse of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
“Keegan is always willing to try, always takes care of me and never disappoints,” says his owner, Emily Jewell. “I ride him on the trails in the state forest and he’s been in hundreds of parades, large and small, including the Chicago Thanksgiving Day parade.”
Jewell has been involved with horses all her life. She got her first pony at age three and never looked back. She discovered Friesians at a young age, having seen photos, and knew that she wanted a big black stallion for her own. When her husband Todd arrived in Kuwait on his way to Iraq with the National Guard, he told her to go buy her horse. She started looking the next day and bought Keegan the day he was born. She picked Keegan up when he was seven months old and Todd returned 6 months later to find the pair tightly bonded in his absence.
As the winner of the SuperMask II SuperModel Contest, Keegan will play a starring role in Farnam’s SuperMask® II Horse Fly Mask with Shimmer Weave™ Mesh Color Collection 2012 advertising campaign and receive a Farnam® horse products prize package with an approximate retail value of $1,000. The eleven runners-up will each receive a Farnam® horse products prize package with an approximate retail value of $250.
